The Avoyelles Council on Aging was chartered in June of 1966 and originally housed in a one-room office in the Avoyelles Parish Court House with six employees. Under the direction of Joyce LaBorde (who retired in 2004), the Avoyelles Council on Aging established many needed services for the elderly of Avoyelles Parish. Today, it has nine senior sites across the parish and a transportation unit that covers three parishes with plans to expand in the future.
